As mentioned earlier by Autocar, the Toyota -owned Lexus is preparing a new sports car that is expected to compete in the GT3 race next year. Motomachi will most likely host the assembly of this model, given that it had previously included his predecessor, LFA Supercar.
The GR section is also working on the all-new silica coupe and is believed to be considering alternatives to MR2 (stopped in 2007) and SuPra, as well as the Mazda MX-5 competitor.
Although the plan to enhance the GR Corolla production through the UK has not been informed by US President Donald Trump’s tariff, given that it precedes Trump’s presidency, the export decision from the UK certainly benefits the company on the front.
The United States currently receives a 25 % tariff on all cars imported to the country from abroad, including Japan. However, the UK recently agreed to negotiate a deal that would reduce its exports to 10 %, within a national share of 100,000 cars. The final details have not been confirmed yet, but at the present time, Toyota will have to pay a smaller fee on the United Kingdom GR Corollas from those in Japan.
The possibility of adding production in the UK also gives weight to the possibility that GR Corolla – currently offered in a few markets, including the United States and Japan – can be launched in Europe.
Initial models were monitored last year in the Nürburgring test in Germany, which hints at launch. A spokesman indicated that the standard procedure for testing global products in the circle, but did not deny this possibility.
