The Superb Sportline returned with 265 hp

While we can all dream of a fantastic vRS with nearly 500 horsepower, massive AP Racing brakes and a fantastic set of coilovers, it’s not going to happen. However, those who fancy a slightly sportier Skoda (that’s easy for you to say), can now be relieved by the addition of the Sportline model to the latest fourth-generation Superb. Skoda promises “striking looks combined with exceptional practicality and agile driving dynamics”.

Depending on every type of sporting specification ever, the Sportline is available with a full range of engines, including petrol, diesel and hybrid options. There are four-wheel drive models too. Most interesting for PH, of course, is the 265bhp TSI petrol engine, continuing Skoda’s tradition of offering hot Golf engines in its largest models. Expect 0-62mph in around six seconds and 155mph, thanks to standard DSG plus 4×4 fit.

But this powertrain is already available with the luxury L&K model; Skoda hopes that buyers who want a sleeker look and sharper ride will be attracted by the Sportline. The new model receives gloss black accents (including the wagon’s roof rails), unique bumpers, 19-inch Tourcolour wheels and new badging. Kind of clever, isn’t it? The standard kit also includes standard DCC dampers with a 15mm lower ride height than other Superbs, as well as progressive steering for a “more agile and dynamic feel at speed”. The Sportline won’t be transformatively different, although it’s nice to know that’s more than just black Skoda lettering on the boot.

Inside, there’s something called “Sportline Design Select,” something we’re not 100 percent sure about. Most popular are the sports seats – heated and massaging – as well as a black headliner, aluminum pedal covers and a new three-spoke leather wheel. The latter seems unimportant, although it sounds much better than the weird two-spoke setup on regular models.

All six engine options for the Skoda Superb Sportline can now be ordered, with prices starting from £42,290 for the 1.5 with 150bhp. The Estate carries a £1,300 premium, and is the only Sport variant available with the 204bhp plug-in hybrid (£48,060). The same power is available via the 2.0 TSI (£43,665 hatch), with your diesel options being a 150bhp front-drive (from £42,465) or a 193bhp 4×4 (£46,080). The 265bhp Sportline costs £46,695 as a hatch, or £47,995 as an estate.

Which seems like a lot, because everything happens these days. Thank heavens then for the wonderful classifieds and priors; This gorgeous 280bhp hatch from 2023 is for sale as a Skoda Certified Car with just 3,000 miles for just under £32,000.
