The Canadian BMW collection can soon include the new Hybrid SUV-although it is not from the usual source of North America in the auto industry. The recent comments from the CEO of BMW South Africa, Peter Van Penpirgen, indicate that the Roslin Auto Industry Factory may start to export BMW X3 PHEV (hybrid electric vehicle) to Canada, a market that currently does not offer the model. The VAN BINSBERGEN statement, which was conducted during a local event, indicated that due to the trade tensions and definitions between the United States and Canada, BMW South Africa will enter the Canadian market with the electric version of the medium -sized SUVs. But this may have been a step forward to the official press statement.
BMW Canada responds
In response to the statement, BMW Canada explained the situation, stressing that although there is nothing to end, the discussions are already ongoing. In a statement of BMWBLOG, a brand spokesman said:

In other words, Canada can be in a line to receive X3 PHEV from South Africa – but the plan has not yet exceeded internal assessments.
Why do it matter
Nowadays, BMW X3 PHEV is not available for purchase in Canada, although it is sold in the markets throughout Europe and the United States. Canadian customers who are looking for electric -wheel drive vehicles for SUVs are currently currently: BMW IX. The possible access to the X3 30e XDrive would fill a major gap in the BMW Canada collection, attracting customers looking for medium -sized SUVs that mix electrification with internal combustion flexibility.
The global role of the Roslin Factory
The Roslyn’s BMW facility in South Africa is not the newcomer for global exports. Since its opening in 1973 as the first BMW manufacturer outside Germany, it has evolved into a high-capacity center that results from multiple variables of X3-including gasoline and diesel, and now composed hybrid models. The last investment, which was 4.2 billion Rand, enabled the factory to start the exclusive global production of X3 PHEV, located for more than 40 countries. With a production capacity of 79,000 units annually and 96 % of export production production, Roslyn is in a good position to become a viable supply base for markets that are affected by the transformation of trade relations-such as Canada.
A state of leakage in the future
Although there is no final decision, BMW’s willingness to look beyond the American supply chain indicates how to reshape trade policies and definitions with car manufacturers’ logistics strategies. Currently, Canadian customers cannot walk at the agency and request PHEV X3 – but based on the tone of South Africa and BMW Canada, it may change soon. It remains to see what the American market will do.
