Mini Cooper 2025 review: prices, specifications, photos

What type of car is Mini Cooper 2025? What is it compared to?

It’s a small, front-wheel-drive hatchback and convertible that relies on retro styling and nimble movements to punch above its weight. It has few direct competitors, but buyers may also consider the Fiat 500e, Kia Soul and BMW X1.

Is Mini Cooper 2025 a good car?

It promises a fun time behind the wheel, although it’s not very practical and costs more than its size suggests. It has a TCC rating of 6.2 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

What’s new in Mini Cooper 2025?

Mini Cooper has received a major revision for its fourth generation as a 2025 model, featuring new styling, new or upgraded engines, the latest technology and slightly larger dimensions. It’s offered in base, S and John Cooper Works models and in two-door, four-door and two-door convertible body styles. The Clubman is no longer available and neither is the electric Mini that used to be called the SE. However, the electric model is set to return, although it may be a 2026 model year.

The Mini Cooper continues with its compact size and pleasant two-box design. The vehicle features many retro styling cues, including round headlights, the available contrast roof, the overall shape, and available stripe and graphics packages. The nose is rounded, and the sides feature dark flares and rocker panels.

The retro look continues inside, with a round central screen and toggle switches for some controls. The touchscreen extends to 9.4 inches and houses many controls. Mini replaces the gauge cluster with a small head-up display behind the steering wheel.

The Mini will gain about 0.7 inches more width for 2025, adding a little more room for second-row passengers. It’s not enough to seat three with any comfort in the four-door model, although the two-door and convertible are officially four-seaters, but two-seaters are better. Front-seat passengers have good space on the supportive thrones, and cargo space can be useful when the rear seats are down, especially in a four-door.

The base engine is new this year. The 2.0-liter Turbo-4 replaces last year’s 1.5-liter Turbo-3 and increases output from 134 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque to 161 hp and 184 lb-ft. The S model’s 2.0-liter turbo-4 makes 201 hp and 221 lb-ft, up from 189 hp and 206 lb-ft. JCW models get a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 228 hp and 280 lb-ft.

With the new base engine, all Minis are peppy, and 0-60 mph times range from 7.4 to 5.9 seconds. They handle well, too, although the go-kart feel that the Mini is known for is best felt in the available Go-Kart “experience” driving mode.

Fuel economy is good, with combined ratings of more than 30 mpg on all JCW models.

Every Mini comes with a good array of standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and parking sensors. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warnings, rear automatic braking, and a lane departure warning system are optional.

How much does a 2025 Mini Cooper cost?

With a more powerful base engine, the 2025 Mini Cooper is now priced at $30,000 to start, up from about $26,000 last year. This includes cloth and synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, driver’s seat memory, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, a central touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Model S costs $4,000 to $5,000 more, and a JCW convertible can approach $50,000 in top Icon trim.
