Lexus is retiring its powerful F performance line… for now

The RC F Final Edition features a carbon fiber front spoiler, roof, rear diffuser and active retractable rear spoiler, as well as 19-inch BBS lightweight aluminum wheels.

Other changes include a special badge on the hood and interior panel. There is a choice of seven exterior colors in Japan (only four in the US), while all models feature black and glow red with Ultrasuede upholstery.

Japan also gets Final Edition versions of the regular RC lineup, fitted with unique 19-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, a Final Edition nameplate inside the cabin, and a glowing black and red interior with Ultrasuede upholstery among other changes.

In Japan, the RC is available with the 3.5-liter RC350 V6, the 2.5-liter RC300h four-cylinder hybrid, the 2.0-liter RC300 four-cylinder, as well as the RC F’s 5.0-liter V8 — all with a rear end. -Wheel drive.

In the US, the lineup varies slightly with the all-wheel drive RC300 featuring a detuned version of the 3.5-liter V6, and the RC350 with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

There’s no hybrid model on offer there, while the US only gets the Final Edition version of the RC F with a 352kW/536Nm 5.0-litre V8.

The RC entered production in late 2014, and Lexus says it has sold nearly 79,000 examples in 62 countries and territories between then and December 2024.

Another 12,000 RC F cars were sold in 57 countries and regions.

Lexus sold a total of 2,536 RC cars in Australia, including the RC F.

The RC F was the final model in the Lexus F performance line, with the GS F sedan being eliminated in 2020.

The only other car to wear the simple F nameplate was the IS F, a facelifted version of the second-generation IS sedan which, like the RC F and GS F, was powered by a 5.0-liter V8.

While the F nameplate may remain dormant for a while, Toyota is reportedly working on a V8-powered supercar, which could arrive in showrooms in 2026 as a successor to the popular LFA, which looks like the GR GT3 concept.

Before that, Lexus Australia will launch a high-performance vehicle with a completely different name: the LBX Morizo ​​RR SUV, the luxury brand’s replacement for the iconic Toyota GR Yaris and GR Corolla. It is scheduled to arrive here in the first half of this year.

Lexus also offers F Sport models, which typically feature unique design cues and additional features such as adaptive suspension, as well as F Sport Performance models.

The RX500h F Sport Performance features a turbocharged hybrid powertrain, superior to other members of the RX lineup, while the overseas IS500 F Sport Performance has a 5-litre V8 petrol engine.
