How does Mini John Coper engineers create cars for gas and electric performance

Mini’s John Cooper Works, or JCW, is charged with one of the most enjoyable tasks on this planet. They take small cars and small payment cars-which are already already enjoying outside the box-and turning them into more focused versions of themselves. The next generation of Mini is for us, and this means a new round of JCW products as well. But what exactly goes to convert mini to JCW? Perhaps more importantly, how is the electrification treated in the fun formula? We sit with Patrick Hoser, the miniature engineer responsible for J01 JCW Electric and J05 Aceman JCW, to learn more.

Starting from A to Z

“The first thing is always springs,” Patrick begins when we ask where engineers start when it comes to JCW-ANIIII. After the smooth springs come, but this is not all that is tampered with. New anti -stagnant tapes, stabilizers, and pouring tuft are added, and the additional association is contacted. After locking in the “devices”, as Patrick calls it, Minnie turns his attention to guidance. “If you have a very heavy direction, a car may feel numb,” Patrick says. “Very light, and he may feel a little tension.” The idea is to find the perfect means. Another mini worker seen is guidance quickly. Obviously, throughout the city, you don’t want heavy guidance. But at highway speeds, you want something with some weight to avoid tingling. The guidance is one of the most important ingredients on how to feel the car, according to Patrick. We agree.

Here is the place where the device begins to differ. The F66 Mini Coper JCW is characterized by the provision of selective feasts for frequency (FSD). These mechanical harms are modified based on road inputs – which give up fast and fast bumps to greater effects. It is not a completely adapted electronic system, but Patrick says it gives the car a multi -use journey, and mixes comfort with sharp control of the body. The mini engineers were also contacted in the additional hump in the front axis, helping to increase the arrest of the corners.

On the other hand, the J01 Mini Coper JCW Electric uses a simpler preparation for the sporting relationship without the selective technology of frequencies. Patrick tells us that they have tried a more advanced system in early development, but they were not happy with what I felt on a heavier electric platform. So instead, they went with a traditional mechanical athletic comment, resting rest and performance in the old way-with accurate control of spring and inhibitors.

Then there is Aceman JCW, which surprised us more. Thanks to the long wheelbase, a wider path, and the center of gravity above 40 mm, it is a car larger than Cooper. Mini originally believed that they could bear a lot of J01 preparation to Aceman, but Patrick says this has never succeeded. They had to return to the drawing plate, restore springs, damages, fixed, cooking, and guidance to make it worth the JCW badge. Interestingly, the direction of Aceman has become lighter on intentionally than Cooper JCW. Why? He explains that adding a lot of steering weight to a larger and heavier car can make it look slow and slow. Its luxury helps keep a graceful mini feeling – especially throughout the city.

Get a fist: traction issues

J01 Mini Coper JCW brings a challenge that may be with residence: tires. “Since it is an electric car … the sporty frame is not always the best when it comes to a circulating resistance,” Patrick explains. Resistance rolls EV effects. MINI needed to contain the framework that balances sports with efficiency, and Patrick believes that they “did so well.”

Of course, with all this torque on the tap, the traction management becomes more important. “For this one, we really have worked to boost Yao’s momentum,” Patrick says. This system uses hidden braking inputs to reduce the decline or even encourage Oversteer, which makes the car more fun and adjustable – such as the MDM MDM M. It gives you sufficient freedom to enjoy, while still providing a safety net if you enter your head.

Talking about excessive confidence, Patrick remembers a JCW test with DSC Off completely. “I walked, got on my side, and it was great. But you cannot do it for a customer,” he says. The mini tone placed DTC (draining traction control) to provide a balance between freedom and stability – what Patrick “umbrella in the background” is called to help save drivers when things become superficial.

Directing torque-something you often feel in powerful front-wheel drive vehicles-another factor that has been in mini management. Patrick is actually a little bit of torque, as it gives drivers more comments when pushing the car to its borders. “We want to have the largest possible comments – especially for Cooper – without pulling you to a place from the angle,” he explains. The team has carefully adjusted the torque compensation until the car is alive but impractical.

Three different cars, three characters

While we enjoyed our time with all three JCW products, each had distinctive personal features that made each one enjoyable in a different way. This is not by chance. More about it in the upcoming full reviews. In the end, Patrick and his team worked hard to make sure that every JCW product still feels bitter and fun.
