GT3 Shootout headlines Goodwood members meeting

It’s that time of year when we start filling our empty calendars with all the car meets, shows and races we’re looking forward to over the next 12 months. You won’t have long to wait before getting in on the action in 2025 either, as Goodwood kicks things off with 82nd members meeting On April 12 and 13.

If you’re not familiar with Goodwood’s season opener, the members’ meeting is a weekend of historic racing, demonstrations and displays all taking place in and around the property’s 2.4-mile circuit. Goodwood has already announced that this year’s event will include the all-new Wayne Percy Trophy, which brings together Group 1 touring cars from 1970 to 1982, and like last year’s revival, everything races on track, from pre-war Grand Prix machines to Rover SD1s, will be powered by fully sustainable fuel without modification. And that’s not all that’s new for 2025 either, as Goodwood has confirmed that this year’s meeting will feature the first-ever competitive shootout in GT3.

GT3 cars zipping around a circuit in full chat is always a highlight, but a selection of classic GT cars flying around the fast, sweeping corners of the Goodwood Circuit should be a sight to behold. Like the Sidecar Shootout competition from last year’s event, the GT3 Duel will see legendary sports car drivers compete over two sessions over the weekend to see who can record the fastest time. Saturday morning will begin with a display of 20 cars at the beginning of the day, before eight cars are selected to participate in qualifying trials. Each car will head out for a warm-up lap, before lining up on the grid for a designated lap from the start. That will determine the running order for Sunday, when the eight competing cars, after another display, go into a single round to be crowned fastest of all. It looks like an ace.

Naturally, this won’t be the current crop of GT3 machines you’ll find in endurance series like Le Mans or GT World Challenge. Oh no. It will be a selection of iconic GT3 cars from 2006 to 2012, arguably the starting point for the category we know and love today. While the entry list has yet to be confirmed, expect to see GT3 legends such as the Aston Martin DBRS9 (V12 and all), Audi R8 LMS V10 and the stunning Mercedes SLS AMG. The V8-powered BMW Z4 was also a stable GT3 car in this era, as was the Ferrari 458 and, of course, the 911 GT3R.
