To wrap up 2024, we asked this year’s three busiest speed hunters to highlight their three favorite stories from the past 12 months – from featured cars to events and everything in between. Finally, we have Mario Cristo to reflect on his year of speed hunting.
MC: Oh, we’ve reached the end. What year was it in 2024, eh? This has probably been my favorite year of speed hunting yet, and it’s been a real pleasure documenting car culture for all of you. From our interaction on social media, I would say you enjoyed the trip as much as I did.
Looking to the future, I’m excited to see what 2025 will bring – because honestly, I have no idea what to expect. One thing I do know is that I want to take my own car to more events next year, although it could definitely use a simple update to get back to 100%. I’m also keen to delve deeper into motorsport events, whether that’s endurance racing on a global scale or historic races closer to home. I already have some trips lined up for snowy and sandy locations, so expect a variety of content from me over the next 12 months. But before we race towards 2025, with my three favorite stories from 2024…

I was torn on this one. I almost included the full coverage of the Goodwood Revival in the top three, but the truth is that I was tired of running around the perimeter of the track in the rain and hot sun all day. But at night, as I was leaving, I really woke up. The sight of historic race cars bathed in the soft glow of fairy lights was just a dream – and something I will never forget.

You’re probably tired of me waxing lyrical about my favorite brands and models, but the day I spent with Paul McLean and his one-of-a-kind Porsche 993 RSR made me reconsider my list of favorite cars. Picture this: a cold, cold morning in the British countryside, the sun shining over dewy fields – a perfect background image of a beautiful, pastel-coloured Porsche. The 3.8-liter’s thundering soundtrack made it even better.

Well, I feel a little guilty, including in last week’s article, but in my defense, I didn’t expect December to be so full of epic car adventures. And really, how could I not include this? Meeting one of my childhood hero cars in person – almost in person – was a moment that will be hard to beat.

Bonus: N24 would have been on the list this year if it hadn’t been shortened to just seven hours and if I had access to the usual media. However, it received honorable mentions for being an incredibly fun weekend and an opportunity to demonstrate how to experience the event as a spectator.

This was supposed to be a short recap, so I’ll wrap it up here. But before I go, I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and may 2025 be full of great car culture.
