Tsukuba is a holy land in the world of time attack, but for most enthusiasts outside Japan, the dream of hitting this iconic path in real life remains so – a dream.
to Jackie Tsi From JTUNE, a New Zealand -based sheet and a Time attack, however, this dream was not just watching behind the screen. It was something to be achieved.

Jackie considers himself a “Normal driver.” Although he is an unofficial coach, Jackie is not a professional contestant. His goal was simple but ambitious: to prove that anyone could appear to Tsukuba for the first time in a car on the street and leave with time in a bosom that may seem unreasonable for novice lovers.

Of course, there was one decisive piece for this puzzle – the car itself.

Charging a car from Japan to New Zealand is affordable, given the huge number of JDM vehicles used every week. But sending a car in the opposite direction? This is a different story. A similar story was covered as four Australians shipped their drift cars to Japan for a month of the track, and kept signs of a tab in their ongoing adventure. From Australia or New Zealand to Japan, the costs of charging cars are nothing but an expensive iceberg top – this is before it was treated on the return trip.

For Jackie, sending a New Zealand car had no financial meaning. A much better idea came through the car salon in Tokyo 2024.

A year ago at Makuhari Messenger, HKS unveiled a wide GR86 to display a new initiative for the company: Hks. Depending on more than 50 years of an adjustment experience, this section was created to create entirely built street cars for customers – from light to brutal. knowledge HKKA has already had a successful GR86 timetable in its research and development fleetJackie asked if he could buy the displayed car, with the intention of taking it to Tsukuba. The answer was not completely clear.

Initially, Jackie was told that he could buy the prototype ‘The Hks’ Gr86, but with his appearance, the car was already sold – to another jacket, which may explain some confusion. Not everything was lost. If ready to wait, HKS can build another car – the GR86 “HKS ‘GR86 – then run it with it at the Tsukuba Time Attack event.

It turns out that this option is better. Jackie can determine exactly how he wants within the limits of what was defined by HKS as a “car in the street”, and he has time to prepare properly to the driving challenge. A few months later, a contract was signed, the deposit was paid, and in June, the “HKS” section started working on Toyota Gr86 RZ at Crystal White Pearl.

By August, the essence of the construction was completed. By the month of December, it was completely completed – in time for the second and latter 2024 HKS Tsukuba HIPER Challenge. This is when I joined Jackie and more than 40 of his friends and family for this occasion.

Before diving on how to develop today, let’s take a look at the car …

At a glance, this is clear that this is not a normal gr86. Legal street? Yes. precise? Not even near. The car features a full set of HKS Type-R This is further enhanced by HKS Spl CRFP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic), vortex generators, and less panels, along with the HKS Spl CRFP SWAN-NeC stability.

GR86 runs two groups of Yokohama 18 x 11 inches-Advan GT Beyonds and Advan Racing Tc4s, which were wrapped in Yokohama Advan A050 295/30R18 Semi-SAICKS for Tsukuba. Coilovers Hks HiperMax R strengthens the car processing while ensuring the endless front brakes of 6 points and 4 stop points.

inside Filled HKS is unleashed.

There is HKS 50 (anniversary) Zeta IV bride seats, HKS 50 TRS 6 belts, and HKS 50th Nardi SPORTS 34s. Don’t forget to accredit her car, HKS Floor and a luggage statistic in the trunk complements the appearance. For its day on the track, the passenger and mats’ bride seat was removed, but everything remained.

Finally, Bowerhouse and HKS’s BREAD and Butter of the Build – the engine. With its naturally inhaled specifications, HKS hit the flat GR86 set to 2.5 liters using the short story collection in step 2, which includes counterfeit presses, I-Beam connecting bars, and a counterfeit column with a Krank key.

To bring the power, the HKS GTIII-RS Turbo collection, with the turbocharged charger, the exhaust spheres, a cat filter, a cat filter, and a super-energy filter. Promotion support is a variety of HKS parts, including GROMMET header, V-BELT exhaust system, Hi-Power-L iI, and S. Dress-type Oil Group, such as dry carbon fiber hood for the dry carbon fiber hood for HKS (removed in these photos), valve box cover, HKS oil filling cover, complete the bay of the engine.

The ECU unit remains at the GR86 Factory, but now it has HKS F-Con Sub-ECU, HKS EVC 7 Boost Controller, HKS ATK A/F KNOCK amp, and HKS VAC II (Remove Corporation) that works next to it. Energy output? With 0.7bar (10.3psi) of reinforcement, connection, 350HP conservative.

This was the construction of the full HKS catalog, with no cut corners. However, the Jacky had an additional request higher than the scope of upgrade, which initially added HKS La (Action Light): limited differential installation of sliding, and a sequence of 69 grams 69g of 69g from Momntum Motorsport in the UK, one of the partners Jacky has long been.
Initially, HKS was not completely this deviation. But when Jackie appeared in Buji HQ Mid-Build with LSD CUSCO RS 1.5-Way in his portable luggage and news that the Quaife gearbox was on its way, the team came. After all, even HKS faced problems with the transfer of the GR86 arrows that fail under the reinforcement on the right track, and a broken box was the last thing Jackie wanted to reduce his time in his day in Tsukuba.

Originally, Jackie was supposed to get some test rolls before the HIPER challenge, but as it often happens with these projects, the construction decreased to the wire. The first time behind the wheel will be at the same event. With only three short sessions of 15 minutes to work with it, putting time in a respectable bosom-Jackie’s goal without 1 minutes-will be easy.

Today began with high lives, but things took a quickly. Jackie did not get out of the hole when the engine stopped and it couldn’t have been restarted. After the car was returned to the HKS hole, the case was tracked to a loose Crank corner sensor. The first session: Done.
To correctly solve the sensor problem, the transmission will need to get out of the car to allow full access to it. There was no time for that, so side repair was employed on the road, allowing Jacky to go out for the second session.

Jackie was preparing for this day for six months, as he was running hundreds, if not thousands of rolls on his simulation. But the changes in the real world in Tsukuba, the Cambron was the angle, and followed the distress, all it had to adapt quickly. During the second session, it was understandablely cautious, knowing that the failure of the Karnak corner sensor at the speed may end in a disaster. Moreover, the car was under the border, and the brakes did not lead as it should, mostly because the towels were not bed and that the suspension settings need to change and switch. Big Aero impeded the speed of the straight line. However, Jackie set out at 1:03, a strong start.

After some adjustments and confidence that the Karnak corner sensor issue will not appear, Jackie prepared for the third and last session. He had a strategy: warm up on the first lap, then pay for a time in the second lap, and the third roll if necessary.

There was an immediate improvement with the first 1:01 roll. But in the second roll, the engine started to rise the temperature, initially causing energy loss and then a difference. Jackie returned to drilling to calm down, but upon his return to the track, her imbalance continued. Not wanting to risk the engine, the session was called.

Although the teething problems did not allow JacKY to reach the goal of his time, the GR86 performance was impressive for the first time.

At the end of the day, Jackie pointed out, “This project was not just a construction or time in the lap. It was about achieving a dream of life with my friends and family, and celebrating the car culture in TSUKuba, the most popular attack in the world in the world.”
Although this was supposed to be a single Tsukuba deal, as Hks GR86 returns to its headquarters after the event and pushes it immediately to export to New Zealand, there is the opportunity of Jackie to get a second snapshot in that 59 -second lap. Japan in Japan 2024/2025. HKS has fixed the Karnak angle sensor problem currently weakening the preparation, so we will see.
