Online car auction sites like Bring a Trailer aren’t limited to just selling the finished product. Today, you can find everything from illuminated dealership signs to racing flags and collectible artwork. Of course, you can also find a lot of different parts. From Porsche seats to factory engines, searching an auction site can be a DIYer’s car project dream. If you fall into this category yourself – and especially if you have a penchant for vintage Alpina and BMW parts, or your own 1966-1971 02 Series project – you’ll love the collection of vintage BMW and Alpina parts that just appeared on Bring a Trailer.
It’s practically a BMW 02 Series Starter Kit
Even those outside the immediate 02 community — myself included — will see a host of parts that every good 02 BMW seems to need. I’m talking about things like Hella foglights, a wooden shift knob (in this case, Alpina sourced), and Recaro bucket seats. A full set of Alpina wheels (five) are included, and new, recently refurbished, sportier Pirelli tires.
The BMW and Alpina parts range contains a lot of rare and interesting components – such as the new old stock (NOS) near-ratio steering rack. For those who don’t know, the 02 came with a standard steering ratio, a faster steering box, and a close ratio (sometimes referred to as q/r, for quick ratio). These are expensive but offer great speed of delivery. The added cost – in the words of one owner – is the “unpleasant grunting and soreness” at high speeds in the parking lot.
In short: bring your ’02, fix yourself up with these auction parts, and you’ll have what some might consider a true ultimate driving machine. Original Alpina manuals, a nice pair of Coco floor mats, dual Weber carbs, and a Momo-for-Alpina steering wheel are just some of the other features. We could list the good ones endlessly, especially when they include cool extras like a framed Alpina jacket with motorsport images of the period.
Get it while you can
With a healthy mix of NOS parts and quality aftermarket components, and over 200 photos in the listing gallery, this pile of parts is sure to catch the eye of just the right person – and hopefully make both the buyer and seller happy. A word of warning to anyone planning to bid – the parts are currently in the Netherlands, and shipping them probably won’t be cheap. Oh – and unfortunately, the gorgeous green 02 case in the picture is not included, but there is a box for charging things. The auction ends on Saturday, January 11 and can be viewed here: A range of BMW and Alpina spare parts.
