I have registered BMW several times to say that the supercar is not a priority. With Neue Klasse just around the corner, the company has larger frying fish. However, this does not mean that special models are separate from the regular squad outside the table. When SpeedTOP for production was approved, we speculate that its success can encourage the highest lighting of other orbit models.
We are now pleased to report that our intuition was good. In an interview with BmwblogSilvia Niobor, Vice -President of the Customer, brand and sales in M, confirmed that the small BMW team has obtained an opening for the M model:
“We are discussing things, but we need to find the right time to do this. Be reassuring, share the same dream and passion. We have talked to Adrian Van Huidonk [Head of BMW Group Design] And the team that plans the small series, and there is an opening for BMW M.
No details are provided, and it is unlikely to arrive at any time soon, given the above priorities. But when this happens, it should be a suitable performance car. While Skytop and Speedtop are M8s with a 4.4 -liter TURBO TURBO, both tend more towards Grand Touring. It is worth noting that the amazing Targa and Coupe Duo does not wear M.
All that is in the pipeline is likely to be less expensive than 3.0 CSL, whose price was uninterrupted of 750,000 euros. For comparison, Skytop and Speedtop were not expensive, but at 500,000 euros, it was far from the cost. However, BMW did not have a problem finding buyers for both CSL 3.0 and Skytop. The requests of requests are open to the Speedtop shooting brakes, although they were only about a month since the disclosure.
In the same interview, Silvia hinted that BMW M is looking forward to the unexploited parts:
“We are always thinking about the place where the possible markets may be for the future. Often, we do it with us [BMW] AG colleagues because we need some basic cars to convert them into a high -performance model. There are some ideas that we discuss with our colleagues AG at the moment. “
It is too early to determine whether these ideas are linked to the small series program, but it is clear that BMW cooks something special to complete its basic M collection. Maybe it will not arrive today or tomorrow, so patience will be a key. Logic tells us that any limited models in the future will also depend on existing products.
Developing a new vehicle from the zero point to sell only a few dozen, or even a few hundred units, is not financially viable. For this reason, BMW remains hesitant to build another super car as a follow -up to the M1. The enthusiasts realize that the medium -engine E26 has a turbulent way to production in the late 1970s, after Lamborghini withdraws due to financial difficulties. The closest BMW was seeing the M after that, but in the end it destroyed the supercar car.
