Mercedes remember most AMG Hypercars due to the risk of fire

Amg One was nothing but pain in evolution. Although the concept appeared for the first time in September 2017, the production version did not reach June 2022. Customers had to wait longer, as delivery operations did not start until January 2023. Making the Formula 1 engine was not compatible with a legal car in the streets. Even the CEO of Mercedes once said that the highest levels of the company should be “drunk” when you reach the green project.

While most of the challenges were linked to a 1.6-liter V-6-liter space of the Lewis Hamilton, the massive summons announced by the Federal Transport Authority in Germany is not related to the complex gas engine. Kraftfahrt-bundesamt (KBA) urges Mercedes AMG to repair a defect that can affect 219 cars.

If it is left without treatment, the issue may form a fire risk. It stems from the hydraulic line of the active rear spoiler, which may lack a pin lock. In the worst scenario of cases, this may cause hydraulic fluid to leak and ignite it on the near hot ingredients. Recovered cars should be examined to determine whether the division pin is present and fixed properly. KBA is estimated that the repair takes about 90 minutes.

Keep in mind that production was limited to only 275 vehicles, so this summons affects nearly 80 % of all the units that were built. Most of the affected cars are in Germany, where 183 owner will need to contact Mercedes-Aamg and set an appointment in a workshop to solve the problem. Vehicles that are likely to be affected by December 12, 2022 and May 9, 2025 were manufactured. For the context, the series began to produce the series of Hyper-Typered Hyper-LASEED in August 2022 at the AMG facility in Coventry, the United Kingdom, which was built in cooperation with Multimatic.

It should be noted that although two AMG had caught fire, KBA does not link these incidents with this particular defect. According to the recall document, there are no reported cases due to the locks of a pinfield on the hydraulic line of the rear wing. As a reminder, the first car was destroyed in a trailer fire in the United Kingdom in May 2023, while the second was burned on the side of the road a few weeks ago in Germany.
