32. This is the number of BMW factories around the world that manufacture cars and engines. One of them is in Chennai, where several models are assembled for the Indian market. Another is about to join them. This year, the iX1 will become the first electric BMW to be assembled in India. It’s not your average zero-emissions crossover because it’s a little bigger. Yes, BMW India will build the stretched iX1.
Being the extended version makes it the largest car in its class. BMW India goes as far as to say that it is one of the largest five-seater SUVs in the country. It is 4,616 mm (181.7 in) long after the wheelbase was extended to 2,802 mm (110.3 in). This makes it 116 mm (4.5 in) longer than the X1 sold in the rest of the world, with most of the stretch coming in the wheelbase to provide extra legroom for rear passengers.
BMW India sells the electric X1 exclusively as the eDrive20L version, so it’s front-wheel drive only. The 66.4 kWh battery pack has a maximum range of 531 kilometers (330 miles) on the local MIDC test cycle. Once the power runs out, it will take 29 minutes to replenish the battery from 10% to 80%. If you’re in a hurry, it will take 10 minutes to put enough power into the battery for 120 kilometres. However, these times can only be achieved if you use 130 kW DC charging. Stick with an 11kW AC charger and it will take six and a half hours to charge a fully depleted battery.
This front-mounted electric motor is good for 204 hp and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of instant torque. BMW India sells the long-wheelbase iX1 with the M Sport Package fitted as standard. You can get 18-inch M wheels without paying extra, and buyers can choose from the following body colors: White Metallic, Carbon Black, Portimão Blue, Metallic Copper Gray, or Skyscraper Gray. Inside, the cabin features perforated vegan leather. In addition, the iX1 has the largest panoramic sunroof in its class.
BMW India wants the equivalent of $56,500. To sweeten the pot, a free Wallbox charger is provided (with installation).
